About the service

Professional, registered educational psychology input for schools.

EP for Schools provides online Educational Psychology consultation and psychological formulation for schools and Local Authorities, with a focus on clear, practical advice and EHCP-ready reports.

The emphasis is on ethical, evidence-informed input that helps schools understand need, plan provision and, where appropriate, contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes. The service does not provide cognitive testing, diagnostic assessment, tribunal reports or private parent commissions.

Approach to online consultation & formulation
A formulation-led model drawing on the evidence schools already hold.

The service is based on consultation and formulation rather than formal psychometric testing. Information is gathered from school staff, existing reports, work samples and structured rating scales where appropriate.

Where feasible and helpful, pupil views are included through adapted online conversations or through the school’s own pupil voice work and uploaded examples. Parent or carer views can be incorporated via consultation arranged by the school.

For each case, the question is whether online involvement can provide a reliable understanding of need. If remote input would not be appropriate or sufficiently robust, this is discussed with the commissioning school and alternative options are suggested.

The goal is to provide a coherent psychological formulation that clarifies needs, explains impact and leads to specific recommendations schools can realistically implement.

How EP advice is used
Reports are designed to sit alongside the evidence schools and Local Authorities already hold.

Reports summarise key needs in accessible language and link these to clear outcomes and provision. They are written so that families, school staff and Local Authority officers can see the rationale behind recommendations.

Advice is structured to support EHCP needs assessments and reviews, particularly Section F, while also informing day-to-day planning, support and targeted interventions within school.

Where helpful, schools may commission a follow-up consultation to think through the advice, consider implementation and respond to any questions raised through Local Authority feedback.

The service does not provide attendance at Tribunal or commissioned advocacy; reports may, however, be included within an evidence bundle where the school or Local Authority chooses to do so.
